Terrified new mother after hospital mixes up twin girls

A distraught mother has been left in a state of permanent confusion after hospital staff mixed up her twins, leaving her unsure which baby is which.

Saffron Crisp had carefully chosen the names of her twin daughters long before they were born, but her best laid plans were upended when the midwives brought out the “wrong” baby first.

It left him unsure which child was which.

“My consultant came in, he said they took the wrong baby out first,” the 24-year-old said.

“So the wrong child came first and because the first child is Delilah, the second child is Azayla.”

The English woman revealed how she named her twins when they were still in the womb.

Named baby A and baby B, she named A Delilah and B Azayla assuming they would be born in that order.

The confusion began when Shafrani, who had planned a natural birth, was rushed in for an emergency C-section. She was told that baby A would be born first, but this was not the case.

After giving birth, Saffron found herself in a shocking situation when she noticed something was wrong. Azayla, who had been the older twin throughout her pregnancy, suddenly became the smaller of the two – and she was told it was Delilah.

She said: “Twin A was the younger twin, she was closest to coming out and we were told twin A would come out first regardless.

“When they took the babies out, they just gave me a quick look at them on the screen and then Delilah was taken to the NICU.

“Throughout the pregnancy Azayla was my biggest baby, so they gave me and I thought ‘oh my gosh, she’s small how small is Delilah going to be?'”

Saffron started to panic as Delilah was supposed to be half Azayla’s size and she assumed the little girl would be in the NICU for a long time.

“But when they wheeled Delilah into my room six hours later, she was embarrassed,” she said.

“They just pulled out whatever they wanted and called her Delilah, but me and my partner looked at them and said we’re not going to change them again because she’s an Azayla and she’s a Delilah.

Despite the confusion, Saffron and her partner decided not to change their names, even though they could no longer be sure which twin was which.

“You look at them and they just look like their names and I think even if they came out the right way, I probably would have switched them.”
